Your masticatory system functions in a complex, integrated, and orthopedic manner. It is recognized that long-term orthopedic stability is dependent on the harmonious function of the teeth, jaw joints, and muscles of your head and neck. A detailed analysis of the various components is necessary for proper diagnosis and management. Mechanical stresses from clenching, grinding, and posturing of teeth can cause damage, dysfunction, and disease in your masticatory system. These conditions can appear as pain, muscle tension, limitations of movement, noises in your jaw joints, and bite changes.
During the functional portion of your examination, we will identify the signs and symptoms of any dysfunction or disease that is present. If present, we will recommend both protective and corrective solutions to your functional problems. TMJ disorders are an ongoing process that require management and are not “cured” in any one time treatment.
