There Are Times Where an Extraction is Your Best Option
Posted on 1/20/2020 by McDonald Office
If you have a tooth that is hurting, there are a lot of people who are right there with you. In fact, at any given time, researchers estimate that at least 10% of adults in the US are in pain from a tooth right now.
Depending on how long your tooth has been hurting, you may need to face the inevitable- you need to talk to someone about getting a tooth extracted. How will you know if tooth extraction is your best option? We have some thoughts.
Why Do Teeth Need to be Extracted?
There are a few reasons why we might need to extract one of your teeth. You may have a cavity that has gotten out of control. If you don't get a cavity fixed as soon as possible, over time, the cavity will continue to grow and become infected- which will be extremely painful for you. If we get to it in time, we can save the tooth. But sometimes, the infection is too far gone for us to save the tooth, which means we need to extract it.
We may also have to extract your tooth because of an accident or an injury. Sometimes a tooth is so badly damaged, it will need to come out. This is especially true if the tooth has been broken off or cracked below the gumline. If we don't remove it, the broken tooth can cause an infection.
You may need to have a tooth extracted if it is impacted. Impacted teeth are stuck, and they can't erupt normally. If a tooth is impacted, it may have to be removed, in order to prevent infection.
