Tips for Keeping Up with Oral Health While Traveling

Tips for Keeping Up with Oral Health While TravelingWhen you're traveling, whether it's for work or for pleasure, a lot of things tend to be put on hold. You're much more likely to eat unhealthy food, for example, because you may have to eat out for most or all of your meals. You also may not exercise as you regularly would. Some people even let their good oral hygiene habits go while they're out of town. If you're one of those people, these tips will help you keep up your oral health even though you're away from home.

Pack Healthy Snacks Before You Leave

It's very easy to snack on candy or cookies while you're away because they're so easy to get. If you're taking a road trip, you'll find plenty of junk food at every gas station you stop at. On a long flight, you may be offered some candy as a snack, or you may be tempted to buy some at the airport where, again, it's displayed prominently. If you take the time to plan out your snacks, though, you'll be more likely to avoid eating sugary foods that damage your teeth. Eating carrot sticks or apples do more than just give you energy. They help promote the production of saliva, which cleans your mouth.

Get Travel-Sized Items

You may not have room to pack all of your oral hygiene items, but fortunately, most of these products come in travel size. You can get a small tube of toothpaste and a small bottle of mouthwash at most stores. You can also get a toothbrush case or even buy a travel toothbrush that splits into two parts to make it more compact. Add a small package of dental floss and you have everything you need.
