Is Getting a New Toothbrush After a Battling a Virus Necessary?

Is Getting a New Toothbrush After a Battling a Virus Necessary? Many people wonder if it is a good idea to replace your toothbrush after a viral or bacterial infection. If you have had an infection, you do not have to worry about your toothbrush reinfecting you with the same virus. In most cases, unless you have a compromised immune system, your body produces anti- bodies to protect you from catching the same virus again.

If you shared a toothbrush with someone while battling a virus, it would be wise to replace everyone's toothbrushes. Other people could get sick from your virus.

How Often Should I Change My Toothbrush Under Normal Circumstances?

Most of us understand we should not use the same toothbrush for too long. When your bristles deteriorate, it is easy to see that toothbrushes do not last forever. It can be confusing to know when to change your toothbrush, especially if you have a good relationship with it and enjoy using it. You might be surprised to know that we recommend changing your toothbrush every three to four months. For those of us living in a climate where we experience four distinct seasons, on the first day of a new season, it would be a good idea to change your toothbrush.

In addition, we have some general recommendations for keeping your toothbrushes clean as possible. Make sure you rinse your toothbrush after using it , and do not so get in solutions or mouthwash. Instead, let it air dry to reduce the chances of bacteria accumulating on your toothbrush.
